드미트리 메드베데프 러시아 대통령이 그루지아에 대한 군사작전 중지 명령을 내렸습니다. 하지만 미하일 사카슈빌리 그루지아 대통령은 몇 시간뒤에도 러시아 군대가 그루지아에 공격을 퍼붓고 있다고 말했습니다.
메드베데프 대통령은 12일 작전 중지 명령을 발표했습니다. 앞서 니콜라스 사르코지 프랑스 대통령은 서방 세계의 정전 요구를 전하기 위해 모스크바에 도착했습니다.
앞서 그루지아는 친 러시아 계열인 남오세티아의 분리주의자들을 공격했으며, 이에 대한 대응으로 러시아가 개입해서 닷새간 그루지아에 공격을 가했습니다. 이로인해 2천여명이 숨진 것으로 보도되고 있습니다.
러시아의 작전 종료 발표 몇 시간 뒤, 그루지아 당국은 자국 군인들이 압하지아의 전략 요지인 코도리 고르지에서 철수했다고 말했습니다. 한편 사카슈빌리 그루지아 대통령은 러시아의 정전 발표 뒤에도 러시아 전투기들이 그루지아에 대한 공격을 계속하고 있다고 말했습니다. 그루지아는 구 소련의 독립국연합에서 탈퇴할 것이라고 사카슈빌리 대통령은 밝혔습니다.

Russian President Dmitri Medvedev says he has ordered an end to military action in Georgia. But his Georgian counterpart, Mikhail Saakashvili, said Russian forces were continuing to mount attacks in his homeland hours later.
Mr. Medvedev announced the truce today (Tuesday), as French President Nicolas Sarkozy arrived in Moscow to push Western demands for a cease-fire.
The truce would halt five days of intense Russian air and land attacks that took Russian forces deep into Georgia, in response to a Georgian assault on separatists in its pro-Russian breakaway region of South Ossetia. More than two thousand people have been reported killed, and analysts say the toll will rise.
Hours after the truce announcement, Georgian authorities said its troops had been withdrawn from Abkhazia's strategic Kodori Gorge -- the only area of Abkhazia remaining under the control of Georgia's central government.
In Tbilisi, President Mikhail Saakashvili told a huge rally that Russian warplanes were continuing attacks on Georgian targets, despite the Russian cease-fire announcement.
