인도네시아 동부에서 오늘 오전 대규모 지진이 발생해 1천여채 건물이 손상됐습니다.
인도네시아 기상청은 규모 6.6의 지진이 숨바와 섬 해안을 강타했다고 발표했으며 미국 지질연구소는 이번 지진이 규모 5.7로 측정됐다고 밝혔습니다.
인도네시아 당국은 지진이 쓰나미로 이어지지는 않았지만 주택 5백채를 포함해 1천1백채의 빌딩이 심하게 파손됐거나 붕괴됐다고 발표했습니다. 지진으로 인해 최소 5명의 주민이 부상한 것으로 전해졌습니다.

More than one thousand buildings have been damaged after a strong earthquake struck eastern Indonesia early today (Thursday).
Indonesia's meteorological agency says the six-point-six magnitude quake struck
off the coast of Sumbawa island. The U.S. Geological Agency says the quake
registered at a lower magnitude of five-point-seven.
Authorities say the quake did not trigger a tsunami, but say more than
11-hundred buildings were either badly damaged or destroyed, including at least
500 homes. At least five people suffered mild injuries.
Indonesia is susceptible to volcanic eruptions and earthquakes because it is
located on a geological fault line circling the Pacific Basin known as the Ring
of Fire.
