일본 히로시마에서 세계 최초로 원자폭탄이 투하된지 63주년을 맞아 오늘 추모식이 열렸습니다.
추모식이 진행된 히로시마 평화기념공원에서는 미군 폭격기가 원자폭탄을 투하한 오전 8시 15분에 정확히 맞춰 조종이 울렸습니다. 원폭 투하 당시 14만명이 현장에서 혹은 방사능 오염으로 수개월 뒤 사망했습니다.
아키바 타다토시 히로시마 시장은 추모식 연설을 통해 미국의 차기 대통령이 핵무기 폐기 노력을 기울여 줄 것을 촉구했습니다. 아키바 시장은 또한 지난해 일본이 유엔에 제출한 핵무기 폐기 결의안을 반대한 3개 국가중 하나가 미국이었음을 상기시켰습니다.
아키바 시장은 이어 원폭 후유증을 안고 살아가는 피해자들의 심리적 치료를 위해 2년 계획의 과학 연구를 진행할 것을 제의했습니다.

Ceremonies were held in Hiroshima, Japan today(Wednesday) to mark the 63rd anniversary of the world's first nuclear attack.
A bell tolled at the exact time (8:15 a.m. local time) an atomic bomb dropped by a U.S. military aircraft detonated over the city. At least 140-thousand Hiroshima residents were either killed instantly, or died within the next few months from radiation sickness.
Speaking before a crowd of 45-thousand people at the city's Peace Memorial Park, Hiroshima Mayor Tadatoshi Akiba called on the next American president to work to eliminate nuclear weapons. He noted the U.S. was one of only three nations to oppose a Japanese resolution before the United Nations last year calling for their abolition.
Mr. Akiba also announced a two-year scientific study on the psychological impact of the bombing on the remaining survivors.
