국제올림픽 위원회의 케반 가스퍼 대변인은 30일 국제올림픽위원회의 몇몇 관계자들이 중국과 협상해 올림픽 경기와 무관한 일부 웹사이트들의 접속을 차단하기로 합의했었다고 밝혔습니다.
올림픽 조직위원들은 올림픽 경기가 진행되는 8월 8일 부터 24일 사이에 외신기자들이 인터넷을 포함한 언론매체에 자유롭게 접속할 수 있도록 하겠다고 약속한 바 있습니다.
하지만 베이징 올림픽 취재를 맡은 해외 언론 기자들은 올림픽 취재본부에서 국제사면위원회와 파룬공정신운동, 티벳 망명 정부 같은 인권 기구의 웹사이트에 접속할 수 없다고 지적했습니다.
국제사면위원회는 중국과 국제올림픽위원회에 완전한 언론의 자유에 대한 약속을 지킬 것을 촉구했습니다.

The International Olympic Committee has admitted it knew China planned to block some Internet access for journalists covering the Beijing Olympic Games, despite promising media freedom.
IOC spokesman Kevan Gosper said today (Wednesday) some International Olympic Committee officials had negotiated with China that some sensitive Web sites would be blocked because they were not related to the games.
Olympic organizers previously had promised foreign reporters unrestricted media access during the games, from August 8th through August 24th.
But foreign journalists in Beijing reported today that they have been unable to access Web sites for the human rights group Amnesty International, the Falun Gong spiritual movement, and the Tibetan government-in-exile.
Amnesty International is appealing to the Beijing and International Olympic committees to fulfill their commitment to full media freedom.
