말리키 총리는 25일 로마 남부 카스텔 간돌포의 교황 별장에서 베네딕트 16세를 알현했습니다. 교황청에 따르면 두 사람은 기독교인들을 포함한 이라크전쟁 난민에 관해 주로 대화를 나눴습니다.
말리키 총리는 이라크에서 전쟁과 탄압을 피해 난민이 된 기독교인들이 고향에 돌아갈 수 있도록 이라크 정부가 노력하고 있다는 입장을 밝혔습니다. 말리키 총리는 교황이 기독교인들에게 고향에 돌아가 이라크 재건에 기여할 것을 당부했다고 전했습니다.

Pope Benedict has called for greater security for Iraq's
Christian minority during his talks with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki.
The pontiff received Mr. Maliki today (Friday) in a private audience at his summer residence at Castel Gandolfo (south of Rome). The Vatican press office said the talks focused on the plight of Iraqis displaced by the war, many of them Christians.
The Iraqi prime minister sought to reassure Pope Benedict that his government is making efforts to facilitate the return of Christians who have fled violence and prosecution in Iraq. He asked the pope to encourage them to return and help rebuild their country.
Mr. Maliki also invited the pontiff to visit Iraq.
