이라크 의회는 화해 증진을 위해 누리 알 말리키 총리가 이끄는 이슬람 시아파 주도 정부에 6명의 수니파 장관들의 귀환을 허용하기로 했습니다.
이라크 의회는 19일 지난 해 정부를 떠난 시아파 당국자들 몫을 채우기 위해 추가로 투표를 통해 장관들을 임명했습니다.
한편, 이라크 당국자들은 고든 브라운 영국 총리가 19일 바그다드를 방문해 누리 알 말리키 총리를 비롯한 이라크 지도자들과 회담을 가질 계획이라고 밝혔습니다.
이라크 당국은 성명을 발표하고 브라운 총리가 이 날 오전 바그다드에 도착했다며 이같이 밝혔습니다. 당국자들은 브라운 총리가 이번 방문에서 이라크 경제, 특히 바스라 시에 대한 투자에 대해 압력을 넣을 것이라고 밝혔습니다. 바스라 시에는 영국 군 4천여 명이 주둔 중입니다.
이에 앞서 마샬 조크 스터럽 영국 공군 참모 총장은 1주일 전 영국 BBC 방송과의 인터뷰에서 영국은 군 2천명 정도를 내년에 이라크에서 철군할 계획이라고 밝혔습니다.

The Iraqi Parliament has voted to accept the return of six Sunni ministers to
the Shiite-led government of Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, giving a boost to
the nation's reconciliation.
The parliament voted today (Saturday) to add the ministers to the
cabinet to fill openings created when a bloc of Shiites left the government
last year. The Sunni bloc - known as the Iraqi Accordance Front - had also
withdrawn from the government last year after a series of political disputes.
Meanwhile, Iraqi officials say British Prime Minister Gordon Brown arrived in
Baghdad today for talks with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki and other
leaders.
Officials say the British prime minister is expected to use the visit to push
for investments in the Iraqi economy, particularly in the city of Basra, where
four thousand British troops are stationed.
