중국 관리들이 오늘 티베트의 정신적 지도자 달라이 라마의 고위 특사단과 회담을 갖고 있다고 중국이 공식 확인했습니다.
중국 외교부의 류젠차오 대변인은 달라이 라마의 특사단이 중국 관리들과 만나고 있다고 밝혔으나, 중국측 회담 참가자와 의제에 관해서는 구체적으로 밝히지 않았습니다.
류 대변인은 이번 회담의 최우선 과제는 달라이 라마가 티베트 분리주의 운동에 대한 지지와 폭력 조장을 중단하고 베이징 올림픽을 방해하지 못하도록 막는데 있다고 말했습니다.
달라이 라마는 그러나 자신은 베이징 올림픽을 지지하며 티베트의 독립이 아니라 자치권 확대를 원한다고 거듭 밝혀왔습니다.

China has confirmed that its officials are to hold talks today (Tuesday) with senior envoys of Tibet's exiled spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, but details of the meeting have been largely shrouded in secrecy.
China's Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao told reporters today (Tuesday) the envoys (Lodi Gyari and Kelsang Gyaltsen) would meet with Chinese officials, but he did not say which officials, or what would specifically be discussed.
Liu said the top priority in the talks was getting the Dalai Lama to stop what China alleges is his support of separatist activities, and inciting violence - and to stop trying to disrupt or wreck the Beijing Olympics.
The Dalai Lama has repeatedly stated his support for the Beijing Olympics, and says he does not want independence for Tibet - just greater autonomy.
