짐바브웨 법원은 21일, 다음 주 대통령 선거를 앞두고 야당인 민주변화운동에 대한 경찰의 집회 금지 방침을 뒤집는 판결을 내렸습니다.
넬슨 차미사 민주변화운동 대변인은 법원은 민주변화운동 측이 22일 수도인 하라레에서 집회를 진행하도록 승인했다고 밝혔습니다. 경찰은 앞서 17일 아무런 설명 없이 민주변화운동 측의 집회를 금지시켰습니다.
이번 집회는 오는 27일 민주변화운동 대통령 출마 후보인 모르간 츠방기라이와 로버트 무가베 대통령 간의 결선 투표를 앞두고 열릴 민주변화운동 측의 주요 행사입니다.
민주변화운동은 운동원 최소 70명이 선거에 앞서 폭력 사태로 사망했다고 밝혔습니다. 그러나 무가베 대통령은 20일 자신의 지지자들이 이들을 공격했다는 주장을 부인하며, 민주변화운동 측이 이같은 의혹을 조작했다고 비난했습니다.
한편, 고든 브라운 영국 총리는 이 날 짐바브웨 사태에 대해 폭력 사태의 무시무시한 확대라며 비난했습니다. 브라운 총리는 선거에 앞서 짐바브웨의 인권 유린 사태에 대해 국제 조사를 해야 한다고 촉구했습니다.

A Zimbabwean court has overturned a police ban on a rally
by the opposition Movement for Democratic Change ahead of next week's
presidential run-off election.
MDC spokesman Nelson Chamisa says the court granted the party permission today
(Saturday) to go ahead with Sunday's rally in the capital, Harare. Police
had banned the gathering Tuesday without providing an explanation.
The rally is the opposition's main event before the June 27th run-off between
MDC leader Morgan Tsvangirai and President Robert Mugabe.
The MDC says at least 70 of its members have been killed in pre-election
violence. But Mr. Mugabe Friday rejected claims that his supporters are
committing attacks, and accused the MDC of fabricating the accusations.
Today, British Prime Minister Gordon Brown condemned what he called the
"horrific escalation of violence." He called for an international
investigation of human rights abuses in Zimbabwe ahead of the vote.
