유엔이 최근 태풍 피해를 입은 버마 농가에 긴급 연료 지원을 촉구했습니다. 유엔은 농부들이 새 농작물을 심고, 향후 추가적인 식량 위기를 피하기 위해서는 연료 지원이 시급하다는 입장입니다.
유엔 방콕 사무소는 13일 그간 버마에 연료를 수출하거나 지원해온 주변 국가들에게, 이라와디 델타 지역의 쌀 농사에 쓰일 디젤 연료를 지원할 것을 요청했습니다.
한편 이번주 초 버마를 방문한 유엔 고위 관계자는 쌀을 심는 시기가 7월말까지이기 때문에 희망이 많지 않다고 말했었습니다.
반기문 유엔 사무총장은 제 때 농사를 짓지 못하면 남아시아 지역에 장기적인 식량 위기가 올 수 있다고 거듭 경고했습니다.
버마는 지난달 3일 태풍 나르기스가 강타해서 주요 농작지에 큰 피해를 입었습니다.
