미국과 유럽연합이 중국에 대해 티베트의 정신적 지도자 달라이 라마측과 결과 지향적인 회담을 가질 것을 촉구한 가운데, 달라이 라마가 호주에 도착했습니다.
달라이 라마는 호주의 케빈 러드 총리와 줄리아 질라드 부총리가 해외 여행 중인 동안 총리 대행을 맡고 있는 크리스 에반스 이민부 장관과 만날 예정입니다. 노벨 평화상 수상자인 달라이 라마는 스테판 스미스 호주 외무장관과도 만납니다.
한편 미국과 유럽연합은 어제 발표한 공동 성명에서 중국 정부가 달라이 라마측과 결과 지향적인 회담을 가질 것을 촉구했습니다. 독일의 안겔라 메르켈 총리도 어제 중국의 원자바오 총리와의 전화통화에서 달라이 라마와의 대화를 계속할 것을 요청했습니다. 중국 외교부는 티베트 문제가 중국의 국내문제이며 외부의 간섭에 반대한다고 밝힌 바 있습니다.

The Dalai Lama has arrived in Australia, a day after the United States and European Union called for "results-oriented" talks between China and his representatives.
The exiled Tibetan spiritual leader is scheduled to meet with Australian Immigration Minister Chris Evans, who is serving as acting prime minister while Kevin Rudd and his deputy (Deputy Prime Minister Julia Gillard) are abroad. The Nobel laureate also will meet with Foreign Minister Stephen Smith.
On Tuesday, the United States and the European Union issued a joint statement calling on China to have "results-oriented" talks soon with the Dalai Lama's representatives.
Also Tuesday, German Chancellor Angela Merkel telephoned Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao to encourage him to continue dialogue with the Dalai Lama.
China's foreign ministry said China considers Tibetan affairs to be an internal issue and opposes outside interference.
