25살의 용의자 카토 토모히로는 자신이 여자친구도 없고 직장에서 살아남기 위해 애써야 한다는 점에 대해 분노를 나타내는 글을 인터넷에 올린 것으로 드러났습니다. 카토는 자신은 재활용되는 쓰레기만도 못하다는 글도 올렸습니다.
일본 경찰은 카토가 사건 현장인 도쿄의 아키하바라를 사전 답사까지 했으며 범행을 사전에 치밀하게 계획한 것으로 보인다고 밝혔습니다.

Tomohiro Kato appeared before prosecutors today (Tuesday) as dozens of his Internet postings and Japanese newspaper reports painted a picture of an angry and lonely young man.
Online, Kato ranted about how he did not have a girlfriend, or any other friends, and how he was struggling to hold a job. In one posting he said he was lower than trash because at least trash gets recycled.
Kato, a student at a top high school, went from being a tennis club leader to a friendless and reclusive temporary worker at an auto parts factory.
