미국에 본부를 둔 국제구호단체 '케어 인터내셔널' 측 관계자는 이 날 '미국의 소리' 방송과의 인터뷰에서 짐바브웨가 자신의 단체 회원들이 야당인 민주변화운동 측 소식지를 나눠줬다고 비난하며 이같이 말했다고 밝혔습니다.
이 단체의 아프리카 홍보 담당자인 케니스 워커 씨는 짐바브웨 정부 측의 이같은 비난을 부인하며, '케어 인터내셔널'은 정치적 개입을 하지 않는다는 엄격한 정책을 갖고 있다고 밝혔습니다.
워커 씨는 이 단체는 짐바브웨에서의 활동을 중단했다고 확인하며, 이같은 정부 측의 금지 조치는 50만명의 짐바브웨 국민들에게 영향을 미친다고 밝혔습니다.
미국에 본부를 둔 또다른 구호단체인 '월드 비전' 역시 짐바브웨 정부 측의 비정부기구 탄압에도 불구하고 최소한의 활동만을 계속하고 있다고 밝혔습니다.

International aid agencies say Zimbabwe's government has ordered some groups to suspend their work because of alleged political activity.
A spokesman for U.S.-based CARE International told VOA today (Tuesday) the government has accused its staff of distributing brochures for the opposition Movement for Democratic Change.
CARE's Africa communications manager, Kenneth Walker, denied the accusation. He said the agency has strict policies against political involvement.
Walker confirmed that CARE has suspended operations in Zimbabwe, saying the ban will affect about a half-million people.
Another U.S.-based agency, World Vision, said the government has accused humanitarian groups of using food aid to campaign for the opposition.
World Vision said it is continuing minimal operations in Zimbabwe, despite what it called a crackdown on non-governmental organizations.
Zimbabwe is preparing for a June 27th run-off election between President Robert Mugabe and opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai.
