샤울 모파즈 이스라엘 부총리는 시리아와의 평화협정의 일환으로 골란 고원에서의 철수에 반대한다고 3일 밝혔습니다.
모파즈 부총리는 시리아는 평화에의 준비가 돼 있지 않다며 이같이 밝혔습니다. 모파즈 부총리는 시리아 정부가 레바논의 헤즈볼라와 하마스나 이슬람 지하드와 같은 팔레스타인 무장단체들을 지원해온 것을 볼 때 테러에 너무나 깊이 개입돼있다고 말했습니다.
모파즈 부총리는 또 이스라엘이 골란 고원을 시리아 측에 내주면 이란이 개입할 것이라고 말했습니다. 시리아는 이란 정부와 강한 유대관계를 맺고 있습니다.

Israeli Deputy Prime Minister Shaul Mofaz says he opposes a withdrawal from the Golan Heights as part of a peace deal with Syria.
Mofaz says Syria is not ready for peace. He says Damascus is too involved in terrorism, a reference to Syria's support for Hezbollah in Lebanon and Palestinian militant groups like Hamas and Islamic Jihad.
Mofaz also says if Israel hands over the Golan to Syria, Iran would move in. Syria has strong ties to Tehran.
His comments came in response to published remarks by Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, who said an Israeli withdrawal from the Golan Heights must go all the way to Tiberias, a city on the western shore of the Sea of Galilee.
That means Syria would control the eastern shore of the Sea of Galilee, territory it did not hold before Israel captured the Golan in the 1967 Six-Day war.
