중국 경찰은 쓰촨성 중부에서 지진으로 생긴 호수를 폭파할 준비를 하고 있다고, 중국 언론이 보도했습니다.
당국자들은 지난 12일의 대지진으로 베이촨 현의 외딴 마을에 생긴 호수의 장벽이 폭우와 여진 등으로 붕괴돼 범람할 위험이 커지고 있다고 말했습니다.
그같은 범람 위기 때문에 호수 아래 쪽의 주민 수 만 명이 대피했습니다.
중국 수자원부는 쓰촨성의 69개 댐이 붕괴 위험에 직면해 있다고 말했습니다. 수자원부 당국자들은 지진 진앙지 인근의 지핑푸 댐에 가장 큰 관심을 갖고 있다고 말했습니다. 이 댐이 붕괴될 경우 하류인 청두 평원에 사는 1천1백만 명의 생명이 위협을 받을 수 있습니다.
한편, 현지에서 25일 강력한 여진이 발생해 적어도 6명이 사망하고 수 백명이 부상했으며, 적어도 7만 채의 주택이 붕괴됐습니다.
지난 5월12일 쓰촨성을 강타한 지진으로 6만2천 명 이상이 목숨을 잃었지만, 당국자들은 사망자 수가 8만 명을 넘을 수도 있다고 말하고 있습니다.

Chinese media say a team of Chinese police is preparing to blow up earthquake debris that is blocking a river in central Sichuan province and has created a so-called "quake lake."
Authorities say thunderstorms and aftershocks have increased the risk that the barrier, created by the massive May 12th earthquake in a remote area of Beichuan county, could burst and cause a flood.
Tens of thousands of people have been evacuated from areas below the expanding lake because of the flood risk.
China's Water Resources Ministry warns that 69 dams in Sichuan are in danger of bursting. Water ministry officials say priority has been given to Zipingpu dam, which is near the quake epicenter.
That dam could threaten 11 million lives downstream on the Chengdu plain if it collapsed.
