국제 구호단체들은 구호 요원들에게 무제한적 접근을 허용하겠다는 버마 군사정부의 다짐을 시험하기 위해 오늘(26일) 사이클론이 강타한 지역들에 구호 요원들을 파견할 것이라고 밝혔습니다.
사이클론 나르기스가 버마의 이라와디 삼각주 지역을 강타한 지 3주일 이상 지난 가운데, 유엔은 희생자 4명 가운데 3명이 아직 어떤 형태의 지원도 받지 못하고 있다고 지적했습니다.
나르기스로 적어도 13만 4천명이 사망하거나 실종됐습니다. 또한 2백만 명 이상이 깨끗한 식수와 대피시설, 또는 의료 보호의 부족으로 고통을 받고 있습니다.
유엔은 버마 군사정부가 국제 구호요원들이 아무런 방해를 받지 않고 버마에 입국할 수 있도록 할 것이라는 약속을 지킬 것으로 믿는다고 말했습니다.
한편, 유엔 아동기구인 유니세프는 버마 군사정부가 20만 명의 고아들을 국가가 운영하는 고아원에 수용하지 말도록 설득하기 위해 노력하고 있다고 밝혔습니다.

Aid agencies say they are sending relief teams into cyclone-hit areas of Burma today (Monday) to test the military government's pledge to allow unrestricted access to their workers.
More than three weeks after Cyclone Nargis hit Burma's Irrawaddy Delta, the United Nations says three out of four victims have yet to receive any form of relief assistance.
Nargis left at least 134-thousand people dead or missing. More than two million are suffering from a lack of clean water, shelter or medical care.
The U.N. says it believes Burma's military government will stand by its commitment to give foreign aid workers unhindered access to the country.
Meanwhile, the U.N.'s agency for children (UNICEF) says it is trying to convince military-ruled Burma not to place two-thousand orphans into state-run homes.
