일본이 아프리카의 후천성면역결핍증 에이즈와 결핵, 말라리아를 퇴치하기 위한 국제기금에 5억 6천만 달러를 지원할 것이라고 후쿠다 야스오 일본 총리가 밝혔습니다. 후쿠다 총리는 23일 도쿄에서 일본이 오는 2009년 부터 재정지원을 시작할 것이라고 말했습니다.
일본은 며칠 전 아프리카의 개발에 박차를 가하기 위해 앞으로 5년 동안 이 지역에 대한 지원을 배로 늘리기로 약속했습니다.
일본 요코하마에서는 다음 주 ‘도쿄.아프리카 개발회의’가 28일 부터 30일까지 열립니다. 일본은 또 식량가격 상승과 식량난으로 허덕이고 있는 아프가니스탄과 아프리카, 팔레스타인 난민들을 돕기 위해 유엔에 지원할 5천 3백만 달러의 긴급예산을 23일 배정했습니다.

Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda says his country will donate 560 million dollars to a global fund for fighting AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria in Africa.
Speaking today (Friday) in Tokyo, Mr. Fukuda said Japan would start giving the financial assistance in 2009.
Just days ago Japan pledged to double its aid to Africa over the next five years to try to boost development on the continent.
Next week (from May 28th through May 30th), in Yokohama, Japan will host the Tokyo International Conference on African Development.
Also today, Japan earmarked 53 million dollars in emergency grants to the United Nations to help Afghanistan, Africa, and Palestinian refugees cope with rising food prices and food shortages.
