중국 당국은 지난 주 지진 피해를 입은 중국 남부 쓰촨 성의 도시 한 곳을 포기하고 다른 곳에 새 도시를 건설하겠다고 밝혔습니다.
중국 관영 신화통신은 지방관리들의 말을 빌어, 베이촨 현의 크샨 시가 급경사의 산으로 둘러싸여 더 이상 안전하지 않다며 평지에 새로 도시를 지어야 할 상황이라고 밝혔습니다. 크샨 시에서는 이번 지진으로 8천6백 명 이상이 사망했으며, 70% 이상의 건물이 파괴됐습니다.
한편 오늘 지진이 발생한 지9일 만에 중국 여성 한 명이 무너진 발전소 지하 터널에서 극적으로 구조됐다고 신화통신이 보도했습니다.
중국 당국은 이번 지진 피해로 인한 사망자 수가 4만1천명을 넘었으며 실종자 수도 3만2천명 이상이라고 밝혔습니다. 중국 당국은 앞으로 사망자 수가 5만명 이상으로 늘어날 것으로 내다봤습니다.

Chinese officials say they will move and completely rebuild one of the towns worst hit by last week's powerful earthquake in Sichuan province.
China's official state-run news agency today (Wednesday) quotes local officials who say the (Qushan) town in Beichuan county, surrounded by steep hills, is no longer safe, and it should be relocated to flat land.
The earthquake killed more than eight-thousand-600 people in that town alone, Xinhua says, and destroyed 70 percent of the buildings.
News of the relocation plan comes as authorities are rushing emergency supplies and shelter to some five million people left homeless by the earthquake. Although increasingly desperate, rescue efforts continue.
Today, a woman was rescued from a tunnel at a power plant nine days after she was trapped during the seven-point-nine magnitude quake.
