짐바브웨 군 당국이 대통령 결선투표를 앞두고 모건 칭기라이 야당 당수의 암살을 기도했다는 야당측 주장에 대해 짐바브웨의 집권 여당이 근거 없다며 일축했습니다.
지난 3월 29일 대통령 선거 직후 출국했던 칭기라이 당수는 지난 17일 귀국할 예정이었으나 저격수들이 자신을 노리고 있다는 소식을 듣고 귀국을 연기했습니다.
짐바브웨 관영 매체는 집권 여당인 짐바브웨 아프리카 민족연맹 애국전선의 대변인의 말을 빌어 칭기라이 당수의 암살 음모 주장은 전혀 근거가 없다고 일축했습니다.
칭기라이 당수 보좌관들은 보안조치가 취해진 다음에 칭기라이 당수가 오는 6월27일로 예정된 대통령 결선투표 선거 운동을 위해 귀국할 것이라고 밝혔습니다.

Zimbabwe's ruling party has denied claims that the military is planning to assassinate opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai ahead of a runoff election against President Robert Mugabe.
Mr. Tsvangirai left Zimbabwe shortly after the disputed March 29th presidential election. He was scheduled to return from abroad Saturday, but postponed the trip after his party said it had learned of plans to kill him using snipers.
State media today (Tuesday) quoted a spokesman for the ruling ZANU-PF party (Nathan Shamuyarira) as saying Mr. Tsvangirai's assassination claims "have no foundation whatsoever, except in his own dreams."
Mr. Tsvangirai's aides have said he will return to campaign for the June 27th runoff once security measures are in place.
On Monday, the U.S. State Department said it has real concerns about Zimbabwe's runoff, asserting that conditions for a fair election do not exist.
