Iraqi police say double suicide bombings north of Baghdad have killed about 35 people and wounded 65 others.
Police say today's (Thursday's) attacks occurred in the town of Balad Ruz. There was no immediate claim of responsibility.
According to police, the second bomber struck as crowds tried to aid the wounded from the first attack.
Earlier today, nine people were killed and at least 23 wounded in a car bomb explosion in Baghdad.
Violence has risen in Baghdad since late March, when Iraqi and U.S. forces increased operations against Shi'ite militants in Baghdad's Sadr City. The district is a stronghold of radical cleric Moqtada al-Sadr.
Across Iraq, the U.S. military says coalition forces have killed six militants and detained 10 other suspects, in operations targeting al-Qaida in Iraq forces over the past two days.
