파키스탄 내 탈레반 무장세력의 최고사령관인 바이툴라 메수드는 극히 이례적인 파키스탄 새 정부와의 평화회담을 중단했습니다.
메수드의 대변인은 28일, 파키스탄 정부가 아프가니스탄 접경의 부족자치지역에서 군대를 철수하기를 거부하고 있기 때문에 메수드가 회담을 중단했다고, 미국의 소리에 말했습니다.
메수드는 지난 주 파키스탄 정부군에 대한 공격을 중단하라고 탈레반 요원들에게 지시했습니다. 이같은 휴전명령은 북서 프론티어 지방 당국자들이 포로 교환과 군대 철수 등 15가지 항목의 평화협정을 협상하고 있다고 발표한 가운데 나왔었습니다.
미국과 파키스탄의 페르베즈 무샤라프 대통령은 메소드가 지난 해 베나지르 부토 전 총리 암살을 계획했다고 비난하고 있지만, 메수드는 그같은 의혹을 부인하고 있습니다.

Pakistan's top Taliban commander has suspended rare peace talks with the country's new government.
A spokesman for Baitullah Mehsud told VOA today (Monday) that Mehsud broke off the talks because the government is refusing to withdraw the army from a tribal region bordering Afghanistan. There has been no word from government officials.
Mehsud ordered his fighters to stop attacking Pakistani forces last week. The truce came as officials in North West Frontier Province announced they were negotiating a 15-point peace deal, including a prisoner exchange and the withdrawal of troops from the area.
Mehsud is the commander of the militant group Tehrik-e-Taliban, based in South Waziristan.
The United States and Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf have accused Mehsud of planning last year's assassination of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto. Mehsud denies the charge.
