미국의 로버트 게이츠 국방장관이 미군이 보유하고 있는 핵무기와 관련 물질의 재고를 전면 조사하라고 지시했습니다.
게이츠 장관은 미 공군과 해군, 군수국에 재고조사 보고서를 60일 이내에 제출하라고 지시했습니다.
게이츠 장관의 이번 지시는 지난 2006년 미국이 실수로 타이완에 핵 미사일 부품을 선적한 사실이 밝혀진 뒤 이뤄진 것입니다.
앞서 게이츠 장관은 타이완이 주문한 헬리콥터용 특수 전지 대신에 핵탄두에 들어가는 퓨즈가 잘못 전달된 경위를 철저히 조사하라고 지시했습니다.
U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates has ordered a full accounting of all U.S. nuclear weapons and related materials, after it was discovered this week that nuclear missile fuses were accidentally shipped to Taiwan in 2006.
In a note released Thursday, Gates ordered the Air Force, Navy and Defense Logistics Agency to conduct the inventory and to submit a report within 60 days.
Earlier this week, Gates ordered a comprehensive investigation to determine how four nuclear warhead fuses were accidentally shipped to Taiwan instead of the helicopter batteries they had ordered.
The fuses, which the Pentagon said contained no nuclear material, sat in a Taiwanese warehouse until last week.
The misplaced shipment followed an August 2007 incident in which a U.S. Air Force bomber mistakenly flew six nuclear-armed missiles over America.
