유엔 안전보장이사회는 20일, 아프가니스탄주둔 유엔 평화유지군의 임무를 1년 더 연장하기로 만장일치의 표결로 가결했습니다.
15개 회원국의 안전보장이사회는 또한 유엔 평화유지군이 현재 탈레반 저항세력과 전투를 벌이고 있는 나토 군과 협력을 강화할 것을 촉구하는 결의안을 채택했습니다.
새로운 결의안에 따라 유엔의 카이 에이데 아프가니스탄 특사는 국제구호기관들이 제공하는 지원이 직접 아프간 정부에 전달되도록 조정할 수 있게 됐습니다.
한편 남부 아프가니스탄 헬만드 주 주도인 라슈카르 가에서 영국군이 순찰중이던 아프간 경찰간에 총격전이 벌어져 경찰관 한 명이 사망했습니다. 아프간 경찰은 영국군이 경찰관들에게 발포했다고 말했습니다. 현재 사건 경위에 대한 조사가 진행되고 있습니다.

The U.N. Security Council has agreed unanimously to extend the mandate of the U.N. mission in Afghanistan for another year.
The 15-member body today (Thursday) approved a resolution that also seeks to strengthen U.N. coordination with NATO-led forces fighting a resurgent Taliban.
The renewed mandate empowers the new U.N. special representative in Afghanistan -- Norwegian diplomat Kai Eide -- to directly coordinate support provided by international donors to the Afghan government.
Meanwhile, in southern Afghanistan, an Afghan policeman was killed during an exchange of gunfire between British soldiers and police who were on patrol in Lashkar Gah, the capital of Helmand province.
Afghan officials say British soldiers opened fire on the policemen. The incident is under investigation.
