브라운 총리는 원자바오 총리가 오늘 자신과의 전화통화에서 그같이 말했다고 전했습니다. 브라운 총리는 티베트의 폭력사태가 끝나야 한다는 점을 원자바오 총리에게 분명히 밝혔다고 말했습니다.
중국 당국은 달라이 라마를 이번 유혈 시위사태의 배후인물로 지목하고 있으나, 달라이 라마측은 이를 부인하고 있습니다.
한편 티베트 자치구의 쟝 칭리 공산당 서기는 중국 정부가 티베트 시위사태를 진정시키기 위해 티베트의 정신적 지도자 달라이 라마와 생사가 걸린 투쟁을 벌이고 있다고 말했습니다.
쟝 서기는 달라이 라마를 ‘승려의 옷을 입은 늑대’로 부르면서, 공산당 조직원들이 적을 공격해 사회안정을 이뤄야 한다고 주장했습니다.

Britain's prime minister says Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao has told him he is willing to hold talks with Tibet's exiled spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, under certain conditions.
Gordon Brown says Mr. Wen made the remark today (Wednesday) during a phone conversation. Mr. Brown said he made clear to China's premier that there has to be an end to the violence in Tibet.
Mr. Wen's reported remark was in contrast to remarks from China's top Communist Party official in Tibet, who has lashed out at the Dalai Lama, saying China is engaged in a "life and death struggle" with the Tibetan spiritual leader.

In comments carried by state-run media today (Wednesday) Zhang Qingli calls Tibet's exiled spiritual leader a "wolf in monk's robes," and urges party organizations and groups to "attack the enemy" and uphold social stability.
Peaceful protests against Chinese rule in Tibet began early last week and gradually turned violent. China blames the Dalai Lama for the unrest -- a charge he denies.
