티베트에서 중국 통치에 반대하는 폭력 시위가 중국내 다른 한 이웃 지역으로 확산되고 있습니다.
목격자들은16일 시촨성에서 불교 스님들이 주축이 된 수백명의 시위자들이 정부 청사들을 공격하고 경찰 차량에 불을 질렀다고 전했습니다.
인권단체들과 목격자들은 이 과정에서 경찰관 1명을 포함해 7명이 사망했다고 전했으나 티베트의 이웃인 시촨성 아바 지역내 사망자 수는 확인되지 않고 있습니다.
인도에 본부를 둔 티메트 망명 정부는 지난 14일 티베트 수도 라싸에서 중국 통치에 항거하는 시위도중 적어도 80명이 사망했다고 말하고 있으나 중국은 10명이 사망했다고 주장했습니다.
한편 망명중인 티베트의 정신적 지도자 달라이 라마는 16일 티베트에서 문화적인 대학살 행위가 자행되고 있다고 경고했습니다. 달라이라마는 국제사회는 티베트에서 무슨 일이 벌어지고 있는지 반드시 밝혀내야할 것이라고 말했습니다.

Violent protests against Chinese rule in Tibet have spread to a neighboring area in China.
Witnesses say hundreds of people led by Buddhist monks attacked government buildings and set fire to police vehicles in Sichuan province today (Sunday).
Human rights groups and witnesses say seven people died, including a police officer. But the death toll in Sichuan's Aba county, which neighbors Tibet, has not been confirmed.
The violence spilled over from the Tibetan capital, Lhasa, where on Friday Tibetans mounted the deadliest challenge to Chinese rule since 1989.
Tibet's Indian-based government-in-exile says at least 80 people were killed Friday. China says 10 people died.
Tibet's exiled spiritual leader warned today that a "cultural genocide" is taking place in Tibet. The Dalai Lama said the international community should find out what is happening there.
