어제 미시시피 주에서 치러진 미국 민주당의 대통령 후보 예비선거에서 일리노이 주 출신 바락 오바마 상원의원이 승리했습니다. 이로써 오바마 의원은 다음달 대의원수가 많은 펜실베니아 주 예비선거를 앞두고 경쟁자인 힐러리 클린턴 상원의원보다 더 앞서게 됐습니다.
오바마 후보는 미시시피 주 예비선거에서 60%의 득표율을 보여 39%에 그친 클린턴 후보를 눌렀습니다. 이같은 결과에 따라 오바마 후보는 미시시피 주의 대의원 33명 가운데 적어도 17명을 확보했습니다.
오바마 후보는 미국 CNN방송과의 인터뷰에서 부시 대통령의 정책을 이어갈 공화당의 존 맥케인 후보에 맞서 민주당원들이 단결할 것이라고 말했습니다.
민주당 예비선거의 중대 고비가 될 다음 선거는 158명의 대의원을 갖고 있는 펜실베니아 주에서 4월22일 치러집니다. 최근 여론조사결과 클린턴 후보가 펜실베니아주에서 오바마 후보를 앞서고 있는 것으로 나타났습니다.

Illinois Senator Barack Obama has won the Democratic Party's presidential primary in (the southern state of) Mississippi, extending his lead over his rival -- New York Senator Hillary Clinton -- in advance of next month's crucial primary in the delegate-rich state of Pennsylvania.
Returns from nearly all the state's precincts show Obama ahead 60-percent to Clinton's 39-percent of the vote. Of Mississippi's 33 delegates, Obama is expected to gain at least 17.
Obama told television network CNN in an interview Tuesday that he expects the Democrats will rally against presumptive Republican nominee Senator John McCain, who Obama said will continue the policies of President Bush.
The next big contest is on April 22nd in Pennsylvania, which has 158 delegates at stake. Recent polls show Clinton with an edge in the state.
