북한의 핵신고를 둘러싼 논란이 해결되지 않을 경우 북핵 6자회담이 추동력을 잃을 수 있다고 한국의 유명환 신임 외무장관이 경고했습니다.
유명환 장관은 오늘 취임후 첫 브리핑에서 북한의 우라늄 농축 프로그램과 시리아와의 핵협력설이 6자회담의 진전을 늦추고 있다고 말했습니다.
유 장관의 이같은 발언은 미국과 북한의 6자회담 수석대표들이 스위스 제네바에서 양자회동을 갖기 하루전에 나온 것입니다.
북한은 우라늄 농축 프로그램의 보유를 공식 인정하지 않고 있지만, 미국은 북한의 우라늄 농축 프로그램이 존재함을 밝히는 증거가 많이 있다는 입장입니다. 미국은 또 지난해 9월 이스라엘 폭격기 파괴한 시리아의 핵시설 건설에 북한이 협조한 것으로 의심하고 있습니다.

South Korea's new Foreign Minister Yu Myung-hwan has warned that talks over North Korea's nuclear weapons could loose momentum if disputes over a nuclear declaration are not resolved.
Today (Wednesday), in his first briefing to reporters since taking office, Yu said disputes over North Korea's alleged uranium enrichment program and nuclear aid to Syria were slowing the progress of the talks.
North Korea has never publicly admitted to having a uranium enrichment program, but U.S. officials say there is plenty of evidence that it exists. The United States also suspects North Korea has helped Syria with a nuclear facility that Israeli warplanes bombed last September.
Yu's remarks come just one day before nuclear negotiators from the United States and North Korea are scheduled to meet in Geneva.
