오키나와 경찰은, 지난 10일 밤 오키나와 시에서 알게 된 한 일본인 여중생을 인근 공원으로 끌고 가 차 안에서 성폭행한 혐의로 38살의 미 해병대원을 체포했습니다.

The U.S. ambassador to Japan has apologized to Okinawa residents for the alleged rape of a 14-year-old girl by an American Marine.
During a meeting today (Wednesday) with Okinawa Governor Hirokazu Nakaima, Ambassador Thomas Schieffer assured Japanese officials that the U.S. takes the case seriously. He said the U.S. intends to cooperate with authorities and seek "justice" in the case.
Schieffer also called the alleged attack regrettable and said his "heart" goes out to the young girl.
The ambassador's visit to Okinawa comes just one day after Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda called the alleged attack "unforgivable" and said there should be tighter discipline for American servicemen.
Okinawan police arrested 38-year-old Staff Sergeant Tyrone Hadnott of Camp Courtney Monday, one day after the alleged assault.
The case has evoked memories of the rape of a 12-year-old girl in Okinawa in 1995 by three U.S. servicemen, which resulted in massive protests.
