유엔난민고등판무관실은 수단 다르푸르 지역에서 정부군의 공습이 있은 뒤 현지 주민 적어도 만 2천명이 이웃 차드 공화국으로 피신했다고 말했습니다.
유엔난민고등판무관실 대변인은 10일 이들 다르푸르 난민들은 지난 7일과 8일 양일간 수단 정부군이 3개 마을을 공격하자 국경을 넘어 피신했다고 밝히면서 난민고등판무관실이 이번 사태를 조사할 조사단을 파견할 것이라고 말했습니다.
수단 정부군은 3개 마을에서 군사작전을 단행했음을 확인하면서 이들 지역내 반군을 소탕하기 위한 것이었다고 말했습니다.
반기문 유엔사무총장은 수단 정부군의 이번 공습을 강력히 규탄하면서 다르푸르내 모든 당사자들은 민간인들에 대한 공격을 삼가할 것을 요구했습니다.

The United Nations refugee agency says at least 12-thousand people from Sudan's Darfur region have fled to neighboring Chad after Sudanese air strikes in West Darfur.
A spokeswoman for the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees (Helene Caux) said today (Sunday) the refugees crossed the border after the Sudanese army attacked three towns Friday and Saturday. The agency says it is sending a team to investigate the situation.
Sudan's army has confirmed the military operations in the towns of Abu Suruj, Sirba and Suleia. The army says it was trying to clear rebels out of the area.
The U.N. has said it has preliminary reports confirming an estimated 200 casualties from the attacks.
U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has strongly condemned the assaults and demanded that all parties in Darfur refrain from attacking civilians.
