More than a million Chinese workers are still stranded in southern China, although railway service is slowly returning to normal during a break in the severe winter weather that has plagued large parts of the country.
Heavy snow storms in the south, east and central parts of the country in the last two weeks have caused massive transportation problems bringing much of the country to a standstill.
China's official Xinhua news agency reports (today/Sunday) that in the southern city of Guangzhou more than a million people remain stranded while waiting to get passage home.
Elsewhere, roads are backed up as soldiers and police work to remove ice from frozen highways.
The unusually bad winter weather comes just ahead of the start of the Lunar New Year holiday, which begins on Thursday.
