중국이 50년만의 폭설로 최악의 혼란을 겪고있습니다. 이런 가운데 중국 기상당국은 2일 일기 예보를 통해 중국 남부에 이틀간 눈이 더 올 것으로 전망했습니다.
중국은 최근 중남부에 내린 폭설로 극심한 교통난과 전력부족, 물가 인상 등으로 큰 혼란을 겪고있습니다. 현지 언론에 따르면 이번 폭설로 최소 60여명이 사망하고 1억명 이상의 이재민이 발생한 것으로 알려졌습니다.
중국 국무원은 기자회견을 열어 19개 성에서 발생한 폭설피해로 인한 재산 피해액이 7조원이 달한다고 밝혔습니다. 또 폭설로 가옥 15만채가 파괴됐다고 밝혔습니다.
중국 철도부는 열차가 다시 운행을 개시하기 시작했다고 밝혔으나 아직도 수천대의 열차가 연착되고 6백만에 가까운 승객의 발이 묶여있는 상태입니다.
중국은 군장병 50만명을 동원해 도로 제설과 피해 복구를 하고 있으나 폭설이 멈추지 않아 어려움을 겪고 있습니다.
특히 폭설 피해가 장기화되면서 남부지역의 경우 곡물 생산에 심각한 영향이 미칠 것으로 우려되고 있습니다. 중국 정부는 이번 폭설로 올해 곡물생산이 감소할 것으로 보고 우려하고 있습니다.
후진타오 주석을 비롯한 중국 공산당 지도부는 폭설 피해가 심한 산시성을 둘러보고 폭설 피해 복구를 독려하고 있습니다.
Weather forecasters in China warn that more snow and sleet will spread across regions of the country already hard-hit by unusually severe winter weather.
The National Meteorological Center in Beijing said late Friday that most parts of southern China will receive moderate to heavy snowfall today (Saturday) and Sunday.
At least 60 people have died from weather-related causes while millions are stranded in train stations, airports and ice-covered highways. More than a million people have been evacuated from their homes.
On Friday, Chinese state media reported the transportation system was beginning to function again, but millions remained stranded because of the heaviest snowfall in decades.
Radio stations have fallen silent in Chenzhou, a city of four million in Hunan province, which has been without power for a week.
The snow is causing power outages, disrupting coal and food transportation, and driving up already high food prices. China is reporting seven-and-a-half billion dollars in storm-related damage.
