장위 중국 외교부 대변인은 22일 기자회견을 갖고 중국은 버마에 대한 제재와 압력이 버마 인권 향상에 도움이 되지 않는다고 생각한다고 말했습니다.
이보다 앞서 21일 중국 탕자쉬안 국무위원은 버마 군부의 최고 지도자인 탄쉐 장군의 특사로 중국을 방문한 유 메인 마웅 외무부 차관을 만났습니다.
중국을 포함해 15개 회원국으로 이뤄진 유엔 안전보장 이사회는 지난 주 민주 개혁 진전에 느리다며 버마를 강력히 비난했습니다.
China has rejected demands for stepped up pressure on ally Burma.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu told a news conference today (Tuesday) that Beijing does not believe sanctions and applying pressure on Burma are helpful to the resolution of issues.
Her comment followed a meeting Monday in Beijing between senior Chinese foreign policy adviser Tang Jiaxuan and Burmese Deputy Foreign Minister U Maung Myint, who was visiting as a special envoy of Prime Minister General Thein Sein.
The 15-member UN Security Council, including China, criticized Burma last week for being too slow in bringing about democratic reforms.
Jiang also said China supports the work of UN special envoy Ibrahim Gambari and wants a timetable set for his next visit to Burma.
