미군은 바그다드 남부 무장세력 거점에 대해 세번째 공습을 단행했습니다.
미군은 21일 발표한 성명에서, 미군 전폭기들이 지난 20일 ‘아랍 자부르’라고 부르는 수니파지역의 10개 목표물을 공습했다고 밝혔습니다. 이라크내의 알-카에다 무장세력은 무기를 은닉하고 공격을 계획하는데 아랍 자부르지역의 일반 가옥들을 이용하고 있는 것으로 알려졌습니다.
미군 전투기들은 이달, 1월 초에 감행된 폭격에서 이 지역에 8만톤의 폭탄을 투하했습니다.
미군은 또한 이라크 특수부대원들이 21일 바그다드에서 기습작전을 펴 극단주의 단체 지휘관 한 명을 사살했다고 밝혔습니다.
이라크 경찰은, 바그다드 북쪽 모술 부근에서 주차된 차량에서 폭탄이 터져 2명이 숨지고 9명이 다쳤다고 말했습니다.

The U.S. military says it has carried out a third air assault on a suspected militant stronghold south of Baghdad.
A military statement released today (Monday) says bombers and fighter jets struck more than 10 targets in the Sunni-majority area called Arab Jabour on Sunday. The al-Qaida in Iraq militant group is suspected of using houses in Arab Jabour to store weapons and plan attacks.
Two U.S. air raids earlier this month dropped some 80-thousand pounds of bombs on the area.
The military also said Iraqi special forces soldiers killed a commander of extremist groups during a raid in Baghdad today (Monday).
North of Baghdad, near Mosul, Iraqi police say a bomb in a parked car killed two people and wounded nine others.
