파키스탄 군은 이슬람 무장요원들이 이번 주 점령한 아프간 국경 지대의 와지리스탄 부족 지역에 있는 한 요새를 버리고 달아났다고 말했습니다.

군 관리들은 이번 공격으로 정부군 7명과 무장요원 40명 이상이 사망했다고 말했습니다. 관리들은 이밖에 전투 중 20명이 실종자된 것으로 보고됐지만, 이들 중 대부분의 생사가 확인됐다고 말했습니다.
현지 관리들은 이 지역이 알카에다와 연계된 아프가니스탄 국경지대의 최고 군사지도자 바이툴라 메흐수드의 강력한 거점지역이라고 말하고 있습니다.
파키스탄 정부는 그가 지난 12월 27일 라왈핀디에서 발생한 베나지르 부토 전 총리의 암살 사건의 배후자라고 주장하고 있습니다.
The Pakistani military says Islamic militants have abandoned a military fort they captured near the Afghan border earlier this week.
Officials said today (Thursday) the militants have left the fort (at Sararogha town) in South Waziristan tribal region.
About 300 militants armed with rocket launchers attacked the fort late Tuesday.
Military officials say seven troops and at least 40 militants were killed in the attack. Twenty more soldiers were initially reported as missing following the battle, however officials say many of those soldiers have since been accounted for.
Local officials say the region is a stronghold for al-Qaida-linked militant leader Baitullah Mehsud.
The government has said he was behind the December 27th assassination of former Prime Minister and opposition leader Benazir Bhutto in Rawalpindi.
