키팅 사령관은 중국 측의 조치에 대해 실망을 나타냈지만, 이번 사흘간의 중국 방문 중 중국 측으로부터 향후 미 해군의 입항 요구가 허용될 것임을 시사받았다고 밝혔습니다.
The head of U.S. forces in the Pacific says he is confident that his visit this week to China helped improve communication channels with top Chinese military officials.
Speaking with reporters in Hong Kong today (Thursday), Admiral Timothy Keating said he hoped Chinese military leaders would now take a call from him in a time of crisis.
Admiral Keating said that after having a chance to meet with officials, look them in the eye, and get a number, he felt more confident he could get answers to time-critical questions.
U.S.-China military relations were strained late last year when Beijing canceled a U.S. Navy battle group's port call to Hong Kong.
Keating again voiced the U.S. military's disappointment over the incident, but added that during his three-day visit to China this week, Chinese officials indicated that future requests would be granted.
