스리랑카 군 당국자는 이 날 오전 수도 콜롬보에서 북쪽으로 19km 떨어진 자엘라 마을에서 폭탄 테러가 발생해, 다사나야케 건설부 장관이 병원으로 옮겨져 수술을 받던 도중 사망했다고 밝혔습니다.
병원 관계자들은 이밖에 신원이 확인되지 않은 한 명이 이번 폭발사고로 숨졌으며, 9명이 부상해 치료 중이라고 밝혔습니다.
스리랑카 정부는 지난 2002년 타밀반군과 맺은 휴전협정을 파기한다고 지난주 선언했었습니다.
스리랑카 군은 앞서 7일 북부 지역에서 발생한 전투로 타밀 반군 22명과 자국 병사 1명이 6일 사망했다고 밝혔습니다.

A military official (Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara) says Nation Building Minister D.M. Dassanayake died while undergoing surgery in a hospital today (Tuesday) after the explosion in the town of Ja-Ela, (located about 19 kilometers) north of Colombo.
Hospital officials say an unidentified man was also killed in the explosion, while nine others are being treated for injuries.
Last week the Sri Lankan government announced it is formally scrapping a 2002 truce with the rebels.
On Monday, the military said 22 Tamil rebels and one soldier have been killed since late Sunday in fighting in the country's north.
