파키스탄의 고위 군 대변인은 미군이 현재 파키스탄 내부에서 군사 공격을 단행하지 않고 있으며 앞으로도 그같은 군사작전은 허용되지 않을 것이라고 말했습니다.
앞서 6일 뉴욕타임스 신문은 파키스탄 정부가 그 나라의 불안을 조성하려는 알카에다 과격분자들에 의해 위협받고 있다는 사실에 미국 관계관들은 점차 더 우려를 하고 있다고 보도했습니다.
뉴욕타임스 신문은 딕체니 부통령을 포함한 미국의 고위 관계관들이 중앙정보국, CIA의 권한 확대와 미국 군사력 동원 가능성을 포함해 파키스탄에서 훨씬 더 공격적인 작전을 전개하는 문제를 논의 중이라고 전했습니다.

Pakistani officials are insisting U.S. forces cannot hunt al Qaida fighters in the country, following a news report that senior U.S. officials are considering expanded covert military operations inside Pakistan's tribal areas.
Pakistan's top military spokesman (Major General Waheed Arshad) said U.S. forces do not carry out military strikes inside Pakistan now and would not be allowed to do so in the future.
The New York Times newspaper reported Sunday that U.S. officials are increasingly worried that Pakistan's government is threatened by al Qaida militants who are trying to destabilize the country.
The newspaper says senior U.S. officials, including Vice President Dick Cheney, have discussed expanding the authority of the CIA and the military to conduct far more aggressive operations inside Pakistan, possibly using U.S. military forces.
