이집트의 지중해 항구도시 알렉산드리아에서 발생한 건물 붕괴 사고로 인해 8명의 사망자가 발생했습니다.
구조 대원들은 지난 24일 사고가 발생한 이후 무너진 건물 잔해 속에서 생존자들을 찾기 위한 수색작업을 벌이고 있습니다. 적어도 20명이 잔해 속에 갇혀 있는 것으로 믿어지고 있습니다.
아델 라비브 알렉산드리아 시장은 1층에서 인부들이 수리작업을 하던 중 12층 짜리 건물이 기울어지더니 순식간에 붕괴됐다고 말했습니다. 당국자들은 사고 건물의 소유주는 25년 전에 무허가로 지어진 7층짜리 건물을 지은 뒤 뒤늦게 허가를 받은 후 불법으로 다시 5개 층을 증축했다고 말했습니다.

Egyptian security sources say more bodies have been pulled from the rubble of a collapsed building in the Mediterranean port city of Alexandria, bringing the death toll to at least eight.
Rescue teams have been searching through the rubble for survivors following Monday's collapse. At least 20 people are believed trapped in the debris.
Alexandria Governor Adel Labib says the 12-story building tilted and collapsed as construction workers were doing repairs to the first floor. Officials say it was constructed as a seven-story building 25 years ago without a permit.
Prosecutors have issued an arrest warrant for the building owners.
Building collapses are frequent in Egypt due to poor maintenance and lenient regulations.
