Chinese state-run media report an anti-corruption website crashed shortly after it was launched because so many users tried to register complaints.
Xinhua news agency today (Wednesday) said the official website (yfj.mos.gov.cn) was inaccessible Tuesday afternoon, a day after it opened. It quoted an official saying the number of visitors was beyond expectations.
The website had received 22 pages of messages, many of which were from Chinese citizens wishing to report specific cases of official corruption. There were also messages criticizing the website itself.
The National Bureau of Corruption Prevention that runs the site was formed in September to confront the mounting number of scandals involving government officials.
