인도 동부 지역의 한 교도소에서 3백명에 가까운 공산주의 반군 지지자들이 탈옥했다고 경찰이 밝혔습니다.
현지 경찰 관계관인 라울 샤르마 씨는 인도 차티스가르 주내 교도소에서 377명의 수감자들 가운데 299명이 탈옥했다고 전했습니다.
샤르마 씨는 뉴델리 텔레비전 뉴스와의 회견에서 이들 수감자가 16일 식사시간 동안 교도관들을 제압하고 총을 쏘면서 도주했다고 밝혔습니다. 샤르마 씨는 이 총격전에서 교도관 3명과 수감자 2명이 다쳤다고 말했습니다.
샤르마 씨는 차티스가르 주도인 라이푸르 외곽에 위치한 이 교도소에 경찰 증원군이 파견돼 탈옥수들을 수색하고 있다고 덧붙였습니다.
이들 수감자는 인도내 마오쩌둥 반군의 폭동 지지자들인 것으로 알려졌습니다.

Police in eastern India say nearly 300 communist rebel supporters have escaped from a prison in a violent mass jailbreak.
Local police official Rahul Sharma says 299 of the prison's 377 inmates fled the facility located in India's Chhattisgarh state.
In an interview with the New Delhi Television news channel, Sharma says the prisoners overpowered guards during a meal and fled during gunfire today (Sunday). He says three of the guards and two prisoners were injured during the shooting.
The official says police reinforcements have reached the jail, located outside the state capital Raipur, and are searching for the escapees.
The prisoners are said to be supporters of India's Maoist insurgency.
