유엔 안전보장 이사회 5개 상임 이사국 대표들과 독일 대표는 이란의 핵 개발 계획과 관련, 추가 제재 조치를 논의하기 위해 1일 파리에서 회동합니다.
앞서 30일 런던에서 있었던 이란과 유럽 연합 수석 대표간의 5시간에 걸친 협상은 아무런 성과없이 끝났습니다.
하비에르 솔라나 유럽 연합 외교정책 집행위원장은 이란 핵협상 수석대표인 사이드 잘릴리와 가진 회담에 실망했다고 밝혔습니다.
솔라나 집행위원장은 잘릴리 대표와의 협상에서 좀더 많은 것을 기대했었다고 말했습니다.
한편 사이드 잘릴리이란 대표는 솔라나 집행위원장과 유익한 논의를 가졌다고 말하고 그러나 이란에 대해 우라늄 농축활동을 중단하라는 요구를 받아들일 수는 없다고 밝혔습니다. 두대표는 모두 다음달 다시 회동하기로 합의했다고 말하고 있습니다.
Representatives of the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council and Germany will meet later today (Saturday) in Paris to discuss additional sanctions against Iran over its nuclear program.
Five hours of negotiations in London Friday between Iran and a senior European Union envoy failed to produce any breakthroughs in the nuclear standoff.
EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana said he was "disappointed" by the talks with Iran's top nuclear negotiator, Saeed Jalili. Solana said he expected more from Iran during the meeting.
Jalili said he had good discussions with Solana, but that it is "unacceptable" to demand Iran stop enriching uranium.
Both men said they plan to speak again next month.
The London meeting was seen as a final effort to persuade Iran to comply with international demands to freeze its uranium enrichment activities -- or face new U.N. sanctions.
