A London newspaper reports that the British government has accused China of "electronic espionage" on the computer systems of major British corporations, including big banks and financial services firms.
The London Times reported today (Saturday) that the head of MI-5, Britain's domestic spy agency, sent a letter to 300 banks, accounting and legal firms warning them they were under attack from Chinese state organizations over the Internet.
A summary of the warning, the Times says, was posted on a secure section of the Web site of Britain's Center for the Protection of the National Infrastructure, one of several agencies that protects the nation's computer systems.
The newspaper says the message includes ways of identifying Chinese Trojans, software that hacks into a computer network, and sends back confidential data.
