베나지르 부토 전 파키스탄 총리는 그의 파키스탄인민당이 내년 1월에 실시되는 의회선거에 마지못해 참가한다고 밝히고, 그러나 선거를 거부할 권리는 여전히 남겨두고 있다고 말했습니다.
부토 전 총리는 30일 기자회견에서 그의 파키스탄인민당이 오는 1월 8일에 실시되는 의회선거의 정통성에 관해 우려하고 있다고 밝혔습니다. 그러나 부토 전 총리는 기존의 참여방침을 철회하고 나와즈 샤리프 전 총리가 이끄는 총선거 불참운동에 합류할지도 모른다고 말했습니다.
샤리프 전 총리는 페르베즈 무샤라프 대통령에 대항하는 야당과 제휴하도록 부토 전 총리를 설득할 것이라고 밝혔습니다.
부토 전 총리와 샤리프 전 총리는 이달 초에 무샤라프 대통령이 선포한 국가비상사태를 즉각 해제할 것을 촉구하고 있습니다.
무샤라프 대통령은 29일, 국가비상사태를 오는 12월 16일에 해제할 것이라고 약속했습니다.

Pakistan's opposition appeared divided after former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto said her party will take part in general elections next month "under protest."
Ms. Bhutto said at a news conference today (Friday) that her Pakistan People's Party has concerns about the legitimacy of the election, which is set for January eighth. She said she still may withdraw and join an opposition boycott led by former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
Mr. Sharif says he will try to persuade Bhutto to unite with his opposition against President Pervez Musharraf.
The two former prime ministers have called for the immediate lifting of emergency rule imposed by President Musharraf earlier this month.
On Thursday, the president promised to lift the state of emergency on December 16th. The announcement came after he was sworn in for a second five-year term as a civilian leader.
Mr. Musharraf resigned as head of Pakistan's powerful military a day before.
