레바논 정부는 모든 정치 분파가 단일 후보에 합의하지 못하면, 정부 지지세력중 한명을 의회 과반수의 찬성을 거쳐 대통령으로 선출하겠다고 밝혔습니다. 나스랄라는 그런방식으로 선출된 대통령은 야당으로서는 ‘권력 강탈자’로 여기겠다고 경고했습니다.
레바논 의회는 대통령 선거일을 11월 21일로 재 조정했는데, 이는 친 시리아 성향의 에밀 라후드 대통령 임기의 시한 만료를 3일 앞둔 시점입니다.
반-시리아 정부와 친-시리아 야당이 모두 지지하는 대통령 후보를 뽑기 위해 레바논 대통령선거는 지금까지 세차례 연기되었습니다.
The Lebanese militant group Hezbollah has warned Lebanon's government not to elect a new president without the support of opposition factions.
Hezbollah leader Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah said Sunday that Lebanon's opposition will only recognize a president who is elected by a two-thirds majority in parliament.
Lebanon's government has threatened to use its simple parliamentary majority to elect one of its own members as president if all factions cannot agree on a candidate. Nasrallah says the opposition would consider a president elected in such a way to be, in his words, a "usurper of power".
Lebanon's parliament has rescheduled a vote on a new president for November 21st, three days before the term of outgoing pro-Syrian President Emile Lahoud expires.
The session has been postponed three times to give the anti-Syrian government and the pro-Syrian opposition more time to find a consensus candidate to succeed Mr. Lahoud.
