사울 모파즈 이스라엘 부총리는 8일 라디오 연설을 통해 엘바라데이 총장이 이란의 핵 계획과 관련해서 무책임한 입장을 보인다고 비난했습니다. 모파즈 부총리는 이어 엘바라데이 총장이 이란과 세계 평화를 위협하는 정보들을 의도적으로 무시하고 있다고 말했습니다.
모파즈 부총리는 지난 7일 워싱턴에서 콘돌리자 라이스 미국 국무장관과 회담을 가진 바 있습니다.
한편 엘바라데이 총장은 앞서 프랑스 르몽드 지와의 인터뷰에서 이란이 핵 무기를 개발한다는 증거는 갖고 있지 않다고 말했습니다. 엘바라데이 총장은 이어 비록 이란이 계획을 갖고 있더라도, 실제 핵 무기를 획득하는데는 3년에서 8년이 걸릴 것이라고 말했습니다.
이스라엘 정부는 이란이 2년 안에 핵 무기를 생산할 수도 있다는 우려를 갖고 있습니다. 이란은 평화적인 용도로만 핵을 개발한다는 입장입니다.
앞서 마흐무드 아흐마디네자드 이란 대통령은 나탄즈에 있는 3천개의 원심분리기에서 우라늄 농축활동을 벌이고 있다고 말했습니다. 3천개의 원심분리기에서는 1년에 1개의 원자폭탄을 만들 수 있다는 것이 전문가들의 견해입니다.

Israeli Deputy Prime Minister Shaul Mofaz is calling for the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Mohamed ElBaradei, to be removed from office.
Speaking on Israeli radio today (Thursday), Mofaz accused ElBaradei of taking an irresponsible approach to dealing with Iran's nuclear ambitions. Mofaz says the IAEA chief is deliberately ignoring intelligence about Iran and endangering world peace.
Mofaz met Wednesday in Washington with U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.
ElBaradei said in a recent interview (with the French newspaper Le Monde) that he had no proof Iran is developing nuclear weapons, and if it was, it would take at least three to eight years for Tehran to have such a capability.
Israeli officials fear Iran could produce a nuclear weapon in about two years. Iran says its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes.
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Wednesday Iran has three thousand centrifuges working to enrich uranium at a facility in Natanz. Experts say three thousand centrifuges are enough to produce an atomic bomb in about a year.
