라이스 장관은 2일, 앙카라에서 알리 바바칸 터키 외무장관과 회담을 가진 후 가진 공동기자회견에서, 쿠르드 족 반군 노동당 반군은 미국과 이라크, 터키등 3개국에 공동의 위협이 되기 때문에 미국은 이라크 북부지역에서 활동하는 쿠르드 족 반군들을 진압하도록 이라크 정부에 압력을 강화할 것이라고 밝혔습니다.
알리 바바칸 터키 외무장관은 라이스 장관의 방문은 쿠르드 족 노동당 반군과의 전투에서 터키와 미국의 긴밀한 협력을 보여주는 것이라고 말했습니다. 그러나 그는 이제는 말을 그만두고 행동을 시작할 때가 되었다고 말했습니다.
이에 앞서 이날 라이스 장관은, 오는 5일 백악관에서 부시 미국 대통령과 정상회담을 가질 예정인 레셉 타입 에르도간 터키 총리와 회담을 가졌습니다.

U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice says the United States is committed to intensifying its efforts against Kurdish rebels, with the help of Iraq and Turkey.
At a news conference with Turkey's foreign minister in Ankara today (Friday), Rice said the rebel Kurdistan Workers' Party, or PKK, poses a common threat to all three nations. She said the United States will put more pressure on the Iraqi government to crack down on the rebels who operate in the north of the country.
Turkish Foreign Minister Ali Babacan said Rice's visit marks the beginning of closer cooperation between Ankara and Washington in combatting the PKK. But he said the time has come for words to end and action to begin.
Earlier, Rice held talks with Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who is meeting with President Bush on Monday at the White House.
