멕시코 남부의 타바스코 주에서 50년만의 최악의 홍수로 약 100만명의 이재민이 발생했습니다.
안드레스 그라니에르 주지사는 1일, 현재 30여만명의 주민들이 불어난 물에 고립돼 구조를 기다리고 있다고 말했습니다. 현재 헬리콥터들이 물에 잠긴 가옥의 지붕으로 대피한 주민들의 구조작업을 벌이고 있으며, 수십만명이 안전지대로 대피했습니다.
그라니에르 주지사는 이 지역의 농경지 80% 상이 물에 침수돼 올 농사를 완전히 망쳤다고 말했습니다.
펠리페 칼데른 멕시코 대통령이 멕시코 역사상 최악의 자연재해라고 말하는 이번 홍수로 지금까지 한 명의 사망자가 발생한 것으로 알려지고 있습니다. 칼데른 대통령은 상황이 매우 중대하다고 말했습니다.
남부의 치아파스 주에서도 집중호우로 큰 물피해가 났습니다.

Authorities in Mexico say nearly one million people in the southern state of Tabasco are suffering because of the worst flooding in 50 years.
The local governor (Andres Granier) said (Thursday) 300-thousand people remain trapped by the floodwaters and are awaiting rescue from what he calls the "shocking" deluge. Helicopters are being used to help save people stranded on rooftops. Hundreds of thousands of others have been forced from their homes.
Eighty percent of the land is covered by floodwaters. The governor says Tabasco state has lost 100 percent of its crops.
There has been one reported death in what President Felipe Calderon says is one of the worst natural disasters in Mexico's history. He calls the situation "extraordinarily grave."
Heavy rains also are taking a toll in Chiapas state to the south.
A cold front is blamed for drenching rain storms, and forecasters say more rain is likely in coming days.
