아프가니스탄에서 활동중인 미국 주도의 연합군이 탈레반 반군이 장악한 남부 지역에서 6시간의 치열한 교전을 벌여 반군 80여명을 사살했다고 크리스 벨처 연합군 대변인이 오늘 밝혔습니다.
크리스 벨처 연합군 대변인은 오늘 이번 전투는 전날 탈레반이 헬만드 주의 무사 칼라 지역에서 연합군과 아프간 순찰대에 로켓 공격을 하면서 시작됐다고 밝혔습니다.
크리스 벨처 대변인은 연합군이 전투기를 동원해 탈레반 반군 80명을 사살할 수 있었다고 전했습니다.
벨처 대변인은 또 연합군과 아프간의 사상자는 없었다고 밝혔지만 민간인 사상자에 대해서는 언급하지 않았습니다.
헬만드 지역은 세계적인 마약 재배지로 마약 생산으로 탈레반 반군의 자금을 지원하는 지역입니다.
한편 어제 미군과 아프간 관리는 동부 아프가니스탄의 미군 기지 부근에서 한 자살폭탄 테러범이 폭탄을 터뜨려 4명의 아프간 군과 한 명의 민간인이 숨졌다고 밝힌 바 있습니다.

The U.S.-led coalition in Afghanistan says it has killed more than 80 Taliban fighters during a six-hour battle in the south of the country.
Coalition spokesman Major Chris Belcher says the fighting began Saturday when the Taliban tried to ambush a patrol of Afghan and international soldiers in Musa Qala in Helmand province.
He says the troops called in air support, resulting in the deaths of dozens of Taliban fighters. Belcher says there were no coalition or Afghan troop casualties, and no reports of civilian deaths.
Helmand province is a major poppy growing region where opium production helps fund the Taliban insurgency.
