Iraqi police say a bomb blast has killed eight people and wounded 13 in the Diyala Bridge area southeast of Baghdad.
Officials say two policemen were among those wounded in today's (Saturday's) blast, which targeted an area of restaurants.
In the province of Diyala, U. S. forces say they captured a senior militia extremist, killed two others and detained an additional 14 confessed criminals during operations in the village of al Fawwaliyah.
Military officials say the operation was targeting a splinter group leader who was not honoring Muqtada al-Sadr's pledge to cease attacks, and who was involved in weapons procurement.
Without revealing the identity of the militant, a military statement said he also had ties to an Iranian intelligence cell.
