Turkish officials say the military has been targeting Kurdish rebel positions inside northern Iraq since Sunday's rebel ambush near the border that killed 12 Turkish soldiers.
The officials say the bombarding of rebel camps was in retaliation for the ambush, and not part of any large-scale incursion into Iraq.
On Tuesday, Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki ordered the closure of the offices of the Kurdistan Workers' Party, or PKK, saying the group is a terrorist organization and will not be allowed to operate inside Iraq.
Iraq is also sending a high-level political and military delegation to Turkey to find ways to defuse tensions along the border.
In London, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Ankara can not wait forever for Iraq to crack
down on PKK rebels who use bases in northern Iraq to launch attacks on Turkey.
