A human rights organization says ethnic Somali refugees fleeing eastern Ethiopia for neighboring Somalia are being rounded up and deported by Somali authorities.
The Ogaden Human Rights Committee said today (Wednesday) that Somali authorities trade captured refugees for ammunition and other materials, or simply to prove loyalty to the Ethiopian government.
A senior Ethiopian government official denied the allegation. Bereket Simon told VOA that those arrested and handed over were terrorists.
Ethiopia last year helped the Somali government push a rival Islamist movement from power in Mogadishu and other cities.
